BACKGROUND:
Endoscopic Brow Lift (EBL) is a widely used technique for rejuvenation of
the upper third of the face. Conflict remains as to whether this minimally
invasive approach is superior to open frontoplasty. There is lack of long term follow up in patients undergoing EBL. In this study we evaluate patient satisfaction and quantify position of the eyebrow following long-term follow-up in patients undergoing EBL.
METHODS:
A retrospective review was performed of patients undergoing EBL from June 2003 to March 2011. Participants were sent a
questionnaire to assess satisfaction and were subsequently invited
to the outpatient clinic to define position of the eyebrow using standardized photographs. Patients were assigned either to group 1 (3 years follow up).
RESULTS:
A total of 45 patients returned the questionnaire, 22 patients were photographically analyzed. The median follow up time was 1.2 years in group 1 and 6.2 years in group 2. Mean elevation of the superior rim of the mid-eyebrow was 4.88 mm in group 1 and 3.80 mm in group 2 (p=0.541). The lateral brow showed a mean elevation of 4.79 mm in group 1 compared to 3.80 mm in group 2 (p=0.294).
CONCLUSIONS: EBL results in a high overall patient satisfaction with acceptable scar formation and low rates of persistent loss of sensation. This technique is safe, and minimally invasive with good long lasting functional and aesthetic results.
